Davidson Academy Online Transitioning to Independent School Starting in 2022-23

In an effort to further achieve its mission to increase opportunities for profoundly gifted young people, Davidson Academy’s Online Campus will be transitioning to an independent (private) school beginning with the 2022-23 academic year.

The Davidson Academy was established in 2006 as a “brick-and-mortar” school located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. Since 2017, families have been offered the option to attend either the Reno campus or the Online virtual “campus,” an alternative which developed from a growing need within the profoundly gifted community outside of those who could physically attend the school in Reno.

Understandably, the demand for high quality online learning and services for gifted students has grown tremendously since we began offering an online format over five years ago. While the One School: Two Campuses model has proven to be successful, it has also helped us to understand the unique complexities of running a public school open to students in all 50 states and Canada. By moving Davidson Academy Online to an independent school rather than an extension of the current Davidson Academy in Reno, we will be able to provide more opportunities for students across the U.S. and Canada while still holding true to our commitment to public education in Nevada.

For the remainder of the 2021-22 school year we will continue to operate as One School: Two Campuses with Davidson Academy Online operating as a Nevada public school. Information about 2022-23 admissions will be posted early this fall, and we will continue to update our website and release more information as it becomes available.

The Davidson Institute and Davidson Academy remain dedicated to supporting profoundly gifted students in responsive and innovative ways as reflected in our pursuit of this new opportunity.
