Course Overview

In this introductory level, semester-long photography course, students will gain fundamental skills that will allow them to compose high quality photographs. They will leverage the resources available to them—whether household items or traditional photography equipment—to experiment with focus, lighting, framing, and editing. Emphasis is placed on basic camera operations; photography terminology and copyright laws; compositional techniques; image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop; aesthetic analysis utilizing the elements and principles of art; photography careers; and the history of photography. Students will be asked to think critically and creatively while managing their time and patience to get the “perfect shot” that reflects an understanding of their craftsmanship.
