Introduction to Graphic Design
Course Overview
In this introductory graphic design course, students will utilize the design programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and the collaborative design platform Figma. They will also play design games, watch video tutorials, and read articles that explore the basics of the different graphic design fields, including web design, UI and interactive design, advertising and marketing, illustration, publication, and typographic design. Finally, students will themselves create several digital design projects while participating in the artistic process of creating, presenting, producing, performing, responding, critiquing, and connecting.
Students will be asked to think creatively and critically to design for many real-world scenarios, addressing purpose, intent, audience, and presentation. They will review topics on cultural, historical, and economical relevancy of graphic design while exploring its many global influences and trends.
