Organic and Biochemistry

Course Overview

This course introduces students to the fundamental classes of compounds studied in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Emphasis is placed on nomenclature, physical and chemical properties, chemical reactions, and biochemical pathways. Hands-on experiments are an important component of the course. Lab kits are supplied by Science Interactive and allow students to gain an authentic laboratory experience from their homes. High school Chemistry is a pre-requisite for this course. The course uses a flipped classroom model incorporating the frequent use of videos with embedded questions that students complete asynchronously. The course meets weekly for two-hour synchronous live sessions. Collaborative laboratory experiments are performed during most of the live sessions and additional coursework is completed asynchronously.
