A component of the Davidson Academy Online learning community is based on exploring, discussing, and supporting the social and emotional needs of students. Social and emotional development is a schoolwide philosophy infused in our curriculum, activities, and events. Every member of the Davidson Academy Online team - counselors, staff, teachers, parents, and students themselves - work together to help our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Our staff is knowledgeable and has experience in working with the unique needs of profoundly gifted students. Counselors have the opportunity to get to know students and provide support on an individual basis. Services include, but are not limited to:
- Regular one-on-one check-ins with students from school counselors
- Opportunities to develop self-awareness and management
- Development in areas such as self advocacy, time management, and study skills
- Mindfulness and stress relief techniques
- Referrals to external professionals and resources in the local community as needed and available
- Curriculum that effectively builds academic, social, and emotional intelligence
Oracle Advisory Program
In addition to regular counseling meetings, students receive support through the Oracle Advisory Program. Oracle is a social, emotional, and academic hub for students, a place to develop a smaller supportive community within the larger Davidson Academy Online family. Advisors meet with student and a small group of their same-age peers twice a month where they build relationships, develop resiliency, integrate social-emotional intelligence into their lives, and establish effective cross-curricular academic skills.
